Nancy Howell Agee is the President and CEO of Carilion Clinic, a nearly $2 billion not-for-profit, integrated health system headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia; serving over 1 million people in Virginia and West Virginia. Carilion Clinic includes 7 hospitals ranging from a large, tertiary/quaternary medical center, Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital (third largest in Virginia), to a Children's Hospital to midsized community hospitals to small rural or critical access hospitals as well as multiple business lines such as Home Health, Imaging Services, Pharmacies and free-standing surgical clinics. Carilion Clinic has a large physician group with more than 1000 employed physicians.
Ms. Agee was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer before becoming CEO. During her tenure as COO, she co-led Carilion's transformation from a collection of hospitals to a fully integrated, patient centered, physician led organization. The reorganization resulted in a public/private partnership with Virginia Tech to create an allopathic medical school and a research institute.
Ms. Agee is a recognized national leader in healthcare, currently chairing the American Hospital Association (a membership organization representing the nation's 5000 hospitals), and she was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare in 2016, 2017, 2018 and one of the Top 25 Woman in Healthcare by the same national magazine in 2017 (cover story). Selected as the 2018 Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award winner. Ms. Agee is a former member of the Board of Commissioners for the Joint Commission (international hospital accreditation organization) and past chair of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association and the Virginia Center for Health Innovation.
Ms. Agee serves on several boards including publicly traded community bank, HomeTown Bank, a public utility, Roanoke Gas Company, and a healthcare real estate trust, Healthcare Realty. She, also, serves as a member of the fiduciary Board for VTC School of Medicine, Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, The Virginia Business Council and the Virginia Tech Foundation. And, is a former member of the Taubman Museum of Arts and Mill Mountain Theatre.
Ms. Agee has received many awards over her career including the MS Silver Hope Award, The Palladian Award for Quality and named Virginia Business Person of 2017.
